Evince   (pronounced ih-vins) verb


Definition

to show or display clearly; indicate; make manifest; to reveal the presence of (a quality, feeling, characteristic, etc.).

Main Example

  • Saddam Hussein's home town continues to evince love and loyalty for the tyrannical dictator. According to the British paper The Guardian, the inhabitants of Tikrit celebrated Saddam's 66th birthday on April 28 by decorating every street corner "with homemade shrines to him--small portraits decked with flowers."

  • Oh, about that e-mail you will be writing to the supplier--be sure it's not wimpy. It needs to evince my extreme unhappiness at their missing the shipping deadline for the third month in a row!

  • Are you sure you want Jeff on the security committee? He has never evinced any interest or enthusiasm for this subject!
