Definition

1. extremely impressive in size, quantity, extent, degree, or force; enormous.  2. wonderful; amazing; marvelous.

Main Example

  • Nearly every year, Pixar Animation Studios releases a movie that sets a new standard in computer-animated feature films. This year is no exception. Critics have been unanimous in their high praise for "Wall-E," the latest accomplishment of that studio's prodigiously inventive team of filmmakers.

Workplace Examples

  • Jonathan will do very well in that job. He is a prodigious worker--willing and able to handle any assignment, no matter how demanding.
  • Sure, many significant acts of terrorism against the U.S. occurred during the 1980s and '90s, but the reason why the attack on Sept. 11, 2001 changed our world was its prodigious scale.
